Most of us have had the traditional job where you are allotted a certain amount of sick days to use throughout your tenure at said job. But there is one job that some of us have applied for that you are not allotted sick days, days off or any time that involves being “off-the clock”. That job is MOTHERHOOD :).
Motherhood is a full time job – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 (sometimes 366) days a year. No matter how sick or not well you feel, as a mother you are still on the clock, always. I was not feeling well a few days ago and it was not even a question as to whether or not I was still going to mother that day. My partner and I both share the load of raising our babies together. We check in with each other when either of us are not feeling well to see how much we can do that day but essentially we are never off the clock.
The boys still need to get dressed, eat, and get out the door to their respective child care places. On the not so well days, all of those tasks still need to be done and it can be and is exhausting, especially on those days. On those not so well days, there is no calling into the office saying that you won’t be in because your boss (the kids) need you all day, every day. I know that it won’t always be like this because they will both grow up and with each passing year they will slowly grow more and more independent then they will eventually move out and have their own lives. BUT right now this is what my life looks like. I also know when they are older, I will still always be on the clock but not as active in their daily lives.
I will always be “on the clock” for my babies and I can’t wait for the day when I can call out of work when I am not feeling the best and rest :).
